The Opening of Doors

Jim Morrison

Yes, much of the hard work is done. In fact some of it was already done during the mid sixties. Jim Morrison in The Doors would have turned seventy 8th of December 2013 if he had still been around. Many of those poetic and epic lyrics he created are still highly relevant. The existential message from a time of big movements with music as a catalytic power still makes great impact and more than ever before with a sweet feeling of humbleness.

Since this echo from the past has been following me for 1,5 years I have observed an increasing interest for The Doors. (See links at the bottom for further exploration on your own) There are numerous blogs and pages with interesting content and photos of the band. My personal reflection is that we unconsciously feel a connection to this era. Astrologers are referring to planetary constellations shaping these doorways of consciousness through history. Cyclic changes or cyclic evolution are other ways to describe this.

Civil rights, the student and sexual revolution were some big movements then. Surrounded by psycedelic and experimental currents all creating significant shifts of consciousness. What struck me is that the shift we are experiencing right now most likely is a closing of a cycle. It is time now to harvest those wisely planted seeds.

Take your time and listen to this interview (also included in the Spotify playlist below) with Jim Morrison that speaks for itself. Or read some extracts here.

Some inspirational extracts from lyrics and interviews

WHEN THE MUSICS OVER
What have they done to the earth?
What have they done to our fair sister?
Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit her
Stuck her with knives in the side of the dawn
And tied her with fences and dragged her down

PEOPLE ARE STRANGE
People are strange when you’re a stranger

Faces look ugly when you’re alone
Women seem wicked when you’re unwanted
Streets are uneven when you’re down

Extracts from an interview by Lizzie James. Read the complete interview here
Interviewed by Lizze James, Jim explains the meaning of the verse ”My only friend, the End”:
Jim: Sometimes the pain is too much to examine, or even tolerate… That doesn’t make it evil, though – or necessarily dangerous. But people fear death even more than pain. It’s strange that they fear death. Life hurts a lot more than death. At the point of death, the pain is over. Yeah – I guess it is a friend…

From the same interview:
Lizzie: How can we break through the rules and lies?
Jim: By listening to your body – opening up your senses. Blake said that the body is the soul’s prison unless the five senses are fully developed and open. He considered the senses the “windows of the soul.” When sex involves all the senses intensely, it can be like a mystical experience…Jim Morrison

And another one
Jim: I offer images – I conjure memories of freedom that can still be reached – like the Doors, right? But we can only open the doors – we can’t drag people through. I can’t free them unless they want to be free – more than anything else… Maybe primitive people have less bullshit to let go of, to give up. A person has to be willing to give up everything – not just wealth. All the bullshit he’s been taught – all society’s brainwashing. You have to let go of all that to get to the other side. Most people aren’t willing to do that.

Let 2014 become the year when we dare to become our authentic selves without just becoming fake copies. Dare to speak and live our deep wisdom. Find a saint, artist, philosopher or writer that speaks to your heart. Listen to wise elderly people and learn from the young ones. Let that which inspires you the most lead you towards your own authenticity. Know that many have travelled these roads before us and note that no one has travelled yours. We are all beginners at this time on earth.

The doorway you may find works as an entrance to the void. I refer to the void as the ultimate source from which our authenticity is pouring. From this place the possibilities are infinite. When you feel ready to take this step don´t hesitate – allow yourself to become your own true self. Without judgment or expectation, just choose it. Are you ready to choose?

Please note that I am sharing this from pure interest and as an observer, I have no authority to be an expert on either the sixties, The Doors or Jim Morrison.
